"Cross media convergence and synergy are vital processes in the successful marketing of media products to audiences." To what extent do you agree with this statement in relation to your media area? 

 

 

 

I would agree with the statement that cross media convergence and synergy are vital to a successful marketing campaign for media products. Various movies, TV shows and other media products use convergence to their advantage to gain a better marketing campaign to promote there media products. For example movies will use YouTube to post trailers and behind the scenes footage to promote there film and give people a chance to view there trailer or however they wish to give an example of their media product. Another example of films using convergence to their advantage is using social media to promote their product. Social networking sites are used by millions of people a day and are a vital part in companies reaching out to people and trying to selling their product. The company that is making the product will make a twitter, Facebook, MySpace, etc.. page which will share trailers, write posts about the movie and if the company is a big one in the media industry it will have a lot of likes/followers so the product will be seen by more people then say a smaller production company made a page and spoke about the product they are producing. Another example of cross media convergence is celebrity's social networking pages. Most 'famous' people now have social networking page in which they talk about the film/ TV show they are starring in, for example Tom Cruises twitter page is not run by Tom Cruise, it is run by representatives of Tom Cruise, and they will promote the movie that he is in through that Social Networking page and the advertisement will be seen by the millions of followers that the celebrities have on twitter.

 

 

 

Synergy is also an important aspect of film making for example with Women In Black made by Momentum Pictures. The movie had done deals with twitter and Facebook, this will widen the audience of the film because Facebook and Twitter are the main social network sites. Social networking sites are important in the audiences lives because internet is on the go and there are over 1 billion users on Facebook and twitter and this will have an effect on the film industry because it will bring in viewers and having Daniel Radcliffe as the main character has brought Harry Potter fans to watch his movie as well just so they can see Daniel Radcliffe again. Synergy is most often used by bigger companies as the different elements of them (Often a media conglomerate) work together to promote linked products across different media for example Disney own various different companies worldwide and can use the ownership of these companies to their advantage. Disney own the ABC television network, which in America is one of the biggest networks out there, by Disney owning this they are able to show as many adverts for their media project as they want, this will help them promote any Media project they want to a great standard with the advertisement reaching out to millions of people. Also Disney own their own music production company called Walt Disney records and they also own Hollywood records, this will help them promote media products further. For example when Disney released High School Musical they later released a soundtrack for this film, by doing this they are able to widen they are able to widen their platforms of what to sell due to them now having a movie and a CD, both based on one thing.
